Sorry for the late notice on this announcement but I need to ask if you will attend and/or speak at the City Council meeting tomorrow evening, December 13.
Last Thursday afternoon we learned some important new information about the proposed ReVenture Incinerator at the City Economic Development Committee meeting. Friday afternoon we issued a Press Release to the print, TV and radio media. We also sent the announcement to Mayor Foxx and the Charlotte City Council, the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, Gaston County Commissioners, and the Mayors of Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, Matthews, Pineville, Mint Hill and Gastonia. Please take a moment and read the Press Release at http://charlottesierraclub.org/2010/12/10/reventure-surprises-city-of-charlotte-shocks-sierra-club-with-new-details/
Tomorrow evening, December 13 at 7:00 PM, the Charlotte City Council will vote on an issue that will impact our air, soil, water and our community for the next twenty years – a vote on a revision to the Mecklenburg Solid Waste Plan to allow the burning of our garbage, compostable yard waste and other materials.
That’s why I’m asking you to turn out tomorrow night. Come to be seen or come to speak. Bring your friends. Bring your children to see the political process in action; they can even speak. Can you post a message on Facebook or send a Tweet? Feel free to make signs, the TVs love them. If you can’t make it, will you call or send an email to Mayor Foxx and the Council members ( http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/CityCouncil/MeettheCouncil/Pages/home.aspx )?
If you have never spoken at a City Council meeting, it’s very easy and here’s some information to explain the process: http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/CityClerk/CouncilRelated/Pages/Speak%20at%20a%20council%20meeting.aspx . The agenda for the meeting is at http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/CityClerk/Pages/12_13_10AgendaTOC.aspx .
I can’t image a better first time. Check the Central Piedmont website for information (http://charlottesierraclub.org/) for key facts about incinerators or feel free to email or call me with questions. Until then, see you tomorrow night!
Thanks so much for taking action to protect our community.
