The Central Piedmont Sierra Club has again reached out to Chairman Davis and members of the School Board, Dr. Gorman, President Trobich and members of the Mecklenburg PTA Council Executive Board regarding School Health Risks Associated With Incinerators. Members of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners were also copied on this communication.
The letter provided additional information regarding the following:
- The British Society for Ecological Medicine data and research on “The Health Effects of Waste Incinerators“,
- The UK Health Research Report on Infant Mortality Rates and Incinerator Location , and
- A review of Gasification, Pyrolysis & Plasma Incineration technologies and how “greenwashing” is used to divert attention from critical issues.
You can read the request below:
Please contact your local PTA, School Principal or the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners and let them know that building a garbage-to-energy gasification incinerator and a Recycled Fuel Facility and Transfer Station with schools near-by is unacceptable.
A decision to build a garbage-to-energy gasification incinerator in western Mecklenburg County is a decision that should not be taken lightly. It needs a full and complete public health and safety impact analysis. And we need it before the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners votes to approve the agreement to burn our garbage for at least the next twenty years.
